The mental stage I enter when I am “off task,” with no focused activity going on. It's often launched by Overwhelm. If caught, a friend will kid me (“Anybody home?”) or a boss will corner me (“Your phone’s ringing; have you gone deaf?”) If frequent, it's nothing to laugh at.
Spacing Out
To Do This Week

If you space out often, be honest with yourself this week about it. If you need downtime, work it in; it's crucial. Take a long walk; in the middle of it, sit down and let your mind go. Or just sit and stare at a wall with no radio or tv or visitors. If you take a vacation, be sure it's not as exhausting as the other buzz you're enduring.

If it’s chronic, a counselor or therapist might help. You'll learn that you must either change your situation, welcome it (truly accepting is not the same as resigning to it), or walk away. These are the only three responses available.
